XWaves Projects

We provide a variety of consulting services for ocean wavefield analysis projects. These services include designing custom XWaves modules, performing specific site wavefield analyses, and diagnosing model hindcast strengths and weaknesses. Furthermore, we participate in a variety of offshore Joint Industry Projects (JIPs).

See below to learn more about some current XWaves applications ...

Please contact us for additional information on how our consulting services can support your projects.

Shell Metocean Design Tools
XWaves technology has provided a long history of service to the Metocean group at Shell Exploration & Production. The range of applications has included site climatological assessments, detailed model hindcast evaluations, and focused wave process investigations. Most recently, Shell is using XWaves technology to produce engineering design criteria obtained from the new Spectral Fit Module.

Monitas FPSO Advisory Monitoring JIP
XWaves provides a critical component for a new FPSO Advisory Monitoring System (AMS) under development as part of the MonitAS JIP. The purpose of the AMS is to monitor the fatigue life of critical structural components and provide an early warning system for inspections and replacements. Real-time radar wave observations obtained by a WaMoS II system will be automaticlly processed by XWaves to maintain a history of wave loading conditions. A new XWaves Sea State Module will convert the wave loading history into a standard sea state specification for comparison with the original design criteria.

West African Swell Hindcast JIP
The West African shelf is a particularly challenging environment for numerical wave hindcasting due to the lack of comprehensive wind data, extreme coastal geometry, and the propagation of swell from the South Pacific basin. The West African Swell Project II JIP is employing XWaves technology to identify the best numerical wave model configuration for conducting a long-range hindcast for the region. Once complete, XWaves will also be used to help convert the hindcast results into the engineering criteria needed to design offshore facilities.

US Army Corps Real-Time Observations
The US Army Corps of Engineers Field Research Facility (USACE-FRF) in Duck, NC has a long-standing record of observations to support the coastal engineering community. The FRF uses XWaves technology (AutoWaves) to support real-time coastal wave observations.
